Tom Scott


Tom Scott is a data driven global marketing and communications professional committed to delivering commercial excellence and sustainability outcomes.

Tom joined Huck Capital in 2019 after advising Huck Ventures for more than two years. He plays a number of roles at Huck, including leading the development of its ESG approach both internally and with portfolio companies, providing marketing strategy and execution and managing the Fund’s capital raise.

Tom brings a diverse mix of experiences to his approach, having held senior positions across politics, corporate, government and philanthropy. He has created marketing campaigns to get people to buy products, vote and engage on global issues.

For nearly seven years, until 2016, Tom was head of global marketing and innovation at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the world’s largest philanthropic organization. In this role, he created the first global brand strategy at the organization, led the investment in Global Citizen, an effort to digitally recruit 15 million citizens around the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and was the creative director for all paid, organic, social and digital content.

Prior to joining the foundation, Tom was Vice President of Direct to Consumer Marketing and Communications for Diageo, one of the world’s largest premium drinks businesses. In this capacity, Tom helped lead direct to consumer sales, corporate communications, brand public relations, national events, strategic alliances and digital strategies. He helped launch numerous new product innovations and developed communication strategies to help deliver shareholder value.

Tom has also held numerous senior communications positions in government and the private sector. He advised Fortune 500 companies and other organizations on their interactions with government. And he has worked in both chambers of Congress and on many political campaigns at the presidential, federal and local levels.

Tom has particular experience in social impact communications, speaking regularly at conferences around the world on branding and creativity in the social sector.

Tom has a M.A. in Political Management from The George Washington University and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Washington. He also completed the Boot Camp at the Institute of Design at Stanford University. He is an avid skier, runner and cyclist.
