John-Austin Saviano

John-Austin Saviano is a Strategic Partner to Huck Capital, His efforts focus on firmwide planning, operations and LP engagement.

He is the Founder and Managing Partner of High Country Advisors, where he draws on over 20 years of investment experience that includes two ten-figure endowment launches.

Prior to forming High Country Advisors, John-Austin was the founding President and Chief Investment Officer for UC Berkeley. In this role he was responsible for investing its portfolio, creating its management company and leading its investment team. The Berkeley Endowment Management Company set a new standard for stewardship of investment assets for the world’s leading public university and created a precedent for similar efforts at other public universities.

Before joining Berkeley in 2009, he advised a wide range of institutions and institutional-sized families at Cambridge Associates and served on the founding investment team at the Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation. He began his career financing the growth and operations of public and private companies, as both a senior creditor at a commercial bank, and as a venture investor.

John-Austin earned a BA in Economics from UC San Diego, an MBA from Duke University and is a CFA Charterholder. He currently serves on the investment committee of the San Francisco Foundation.
